Our Year 10 students combined with the students from St Mary’s Cathedral College today for a day of learning about ‘respectful relationships’. This was the second time we had joined with St Mary’s Cathedral College and the day was another great experience for all involved.
The day was run by the team from Love Bites. Love Bites is a school-based Domestic and Family Violence and Sexual Assault prevention program that commenced on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The program is based on best practice standards for education programs as recommended by the Federal Government funded Australian Domestic and Family Violence Clearing House and other leading academics in the area of violence against women. Over 100,000 high school students throughout Australia have participated in this interactive and innovative program aimed at 14-16yr olds.
Students were divided into groups at the start of the day and then progressed through a variety of workshops from ‘Sex and Relationships’ through to ‘Relationship Violence’.
The day concluded with a variety of creative workshops where students could express the learnings from the day in a variety of forms. This poster created by Vince and Janice summed up much of what the day was about.
We hope by providing these opportunities for students from both Colleges we will go some way to helping reduce the incidence of domestic violence in the future.
