Holdsworth Community Ball 2018
The Holdsworth Community, a non-government, membership based incorporated association offers a range of programs for those who are disadvantaged by age, income, disability or social isolation, and to families with young children. Each year, the Holdsworth Community holds a ball for the people that they support. This event allows these people and their carers to get together and enjoy a fun night out.
Throughout Terms 2 and 3 year 11 students, along with students in year 11 from Waverley College, planned and organised a this event. The determined students joined together to create a night that the Holdsworth Community will never forget. By rallying together the students created a “Night at the Oscars” themed night.
Together we met every Wednesday afternoon to put our vision of “A Night at the Oscars” into practice. All of the students and teachers worked in different committees including Decoration, Fundraising, Marketing, Hospitality and Entertainment to make the night possible.
All of the funds for the night were raised by the students through fundraisers at school, and donations in the form of prizes were provided by members of our community and local businesses.
On the 1st of September the students and teachers involved arrived at school at 8am to begin the preparation for the big night ahead. The San Damiano Hall was completely transformed into a glamorous venue, fit for all and any Oscar winners.
The night began with the guests arriving on the red carpet and being showed to their seat by the welcoming committee of students.
The guests were provided with a sumptuous dinner prepared and provided by the Year 11 hospitality students with the help of Ms Courtney McNally,, Ms Taryn Smith and Mrs Joanne McNally.
Throughout the night guests were entertained by Year 11 student Kaylen de Gersigny, who sang beautifully to our guests, and by The Waverley College Jazz Band, whose jazz numbers got people up on their feet and dancing.
The photo booth created by the Decorating Committee was a hit and the photographers were kept busy throughout the night.
The night ended with prizes and dancing that we could not put an end to thanks to the wonderful dance hits organised by the Entertainment Committee.
Thanks to O’Sullivan family, Wreg family, KY Designs – Waverley, Charring Cross Photos, Waverley – Oxfam Shop – Bondi Junction and Florid Flowers – Waverley, for their donations of prizes. It allowed us to recognise the best dressed male and female and the best male and female dancers of the evening.
Everyone worked hard together as a team to make the night a success.
We would also like to thank the Holdsworth Community for providing us with this opportunity and acknowledge all the other work that they do to enrich the lives of people in our community.
