On Saturday 31st August, Year 11 students from St Clare’s College teamed up with Year 11 students from Waverley College to hold the annual Holdsworth Ball. The Holdsworth Community Ball is an annual charity event aimed to provide a fun night out for the Holdsworth Community and their carers. This was the culmination of ten weeks of organisation and planning!
The Holdsworth Community is a non-government, membership based association that offers a range of programs for those who are disadvantaged by age, income, disability or social isolation, as well as families with young children.
The students from Waverley College and St. Clare’s College met every Monday afternoon to plan and prepare for the event. Plans were made for the menu, the entertainment, fundraising, donations of prizes for the evening and designing the decorating of the Hall for the evening throughout these meetings. The date finally arrived and the students met at San Damiano Hall at 10.30 am and spent the day turning it into a Wild West Saloon for the evening. The result was amazing and allowed for all those attending to get into the spirit of the theme.
The event was sensational and proved to be a night that was memorable to all who attended. This year’s theme was ‘Wild Wild West’, and guests arrived dressed head to toe in a variety of rodeo and cowboy costumes. The night started off with a committee of students welcoming the guests as they arrived, and providing them with finger food and drinks. Ruby Baird, a Year 11 student, provided entertainment with her remarkable music performance of ‘Jolene’ and ‘Valerie’.
Soon after, the guests were served with dinner, prepared wonderfully by Year 11 Hospitality students with the help of Ms McNally and volunteers. The highlights of the night included the photo booth, drinks, dancing, raffles and prizes. The night ended with the presentation of grand prizes for the best dressed male and female as well as for the best male and female dancers. Thank you to all the staff and students who helped plan and run the night; it was a huge success!
The Ball was only made possible with the generosity of multiple sponsors both within and outside of the Waverley community. The Holdsworth team would like to acknowledge the following sponsors for their contribution to the Holdsworth community: Bondi Pizza, QE Food Stores, Taste Baguette, Sydney Sixers, Charing Cross Photo, Kellys Bar and Grill, Beachside Bondi Thai Massage, Waverley Bakery, Blow Bar, Cafe Sorelle, Sweetheart Florist and Woolworths. Additionally, we would like to thank Mrs Murphy for all her assistance with the preparation and organisation of the ball and the night would not have been possible without her. Overall, the night was a wonderful achievement for all involved, and will definitely be remembered!
