Our Year 9 Commerce classes have been preparing for ‘Market Day’ for most of this term and Friday’s activities were the culmination of the hard work and preparation put in by staff and students. Each class was divided into group with students choosing team members. Initially discussions centred around potential businesses that may be successful on ‘Market Day’. This morning we attended a breakfast hosted at Bonnie Doon Golf Club to honour the success of one of our Year 12 students. Allegra Keady, received a VET Excellence Award from Southern Sydney Business Education Network. She received her award for outstanding application in Hospitality, demonstrating skills and determination in all assessment tasks, work placement and catering experiences.
Our four teams were at UNSW on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd September as part of this year’s Sunsprint Challenge. In their first attempt at the Challenge the teams were magnificent and represented the College in outstanding fashion. On Friday all teams worked on fine tuning their cars in preparation for racing on Saturday. There were a number of opportunities to race and test throughout the day as well as some time to observe the more advanced designs created by some of the experienced schools. Congratulations to Janice and Maggie for creating such a great car in their first attempt at the UNSW Sunsprint Challenge. Firefly has been created from their vision through hard work and a little assistance from the team at St Mary’s Cathedral College. This is a very impressive car and we hope the girls get a lot of satisfaction from competing at the Challenge this Friday and Saturday.
