In the early hours of Thursday 13 May, St Clare’s Year 11 and 12 students, along with staff, joined together at Bronte Beach for the ‘Darkness Into Light’ reflection. The ‘Darkness into Light’ initiative highlights an extremely significant message aiming to spread awareness of the prevalence of suicide among young Australians and to create positive change in the discussion of mental health. On Wednesday 5 May, Year 9 attended an Evangelisation day at St Ursula’s College. The theme for the day was ‘Made 4 More’ and we spent our time participating in a range of fun activities, games, songs, and prayers. The whole experience was both amusing and educational and we got to experience a range of performers and speakers, interact and make friends with students from other Catholic schools. On Friday evening, St Clare’s hosted St Scholastica’s for Round 2 of the CSDA Debating Competition. Topics included ‘we have a moral obligation to challenge the status quo’ and ‘our personal devices are more help than hindrance’. A huge congratulations to all debaters, especially our winning teams in Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, and Year 12.
The Year 9 iSTEM class spent the day at the Girls in Tech Expo hosted by Commonwealth Bank and Telstra. They heard incredible stories from inspirational women working in technology, they had hands-on experience with AI, VR, robotics and cybersecurity, and they had the chance to meet engineers, analysts and data scientists from companies such as Google and GitHub.
